Young Writers Competition Seeking Entries in Prose and Poetry (pdf)

Learn more at the IMPAC-CSUS Young Writers web site.

The IMPAC–CSUS Connecticut Young Writers program is a competition for high school students designed specifically to encourage young writers and poets in Connecticut.  Young poets and writers in each of Connecticut's eight counties win $1,000 prizes, and proceed to represent their county in a statewide competition.  The top poet and writer selected by a distinguished panel of judges each year earn a trip to Dublin (with a parent) for the presentation of the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and related festivities.

The International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award is the world's largest literary prize, awarding £100,000 for a single work of fiction. Nominations are received by public libraries in major cities around the world, making the IMPAC Dublin Award one of the most internationally relevant prizes in literature.

The IMPAC organization also sponsors competitions for young writers in a number of countries around the world, and right here in the state of Connecticut. The universities of the Connecticut State University System - Central, Eastern, Southern and Western Connecticut State Universities - host the competition in Connecticut.

Deadlines for entries is February 2, 2009.  Learn more, and download the entry form and competition rules.
